Good things seem to come in twos in a home on the market in the Harper’s Choice community in Columbia, Md., from two wood-burning fireplaces to a two-car garage to an extensive lower level with a second kitchen.

The house, a brick-front Colonial built in 1991, sits on a quiet cul-de-sac at 5009 Ravenhill Row. It is on the market for $650,000.

In addition to the eye-catching landscape, which adds to the home’s curb appeal, the homeowners have meticulously maintained the home’s interior.

Guests are ushered inside through a two-story foyer enhanced by gleaming hardwood floors, a Palladian window and chair-rail molding. The dining room sits to the right of the foyer, with the formal living room directly across from it.

Several of the rooms, including the formal living room, feature a burst of color. This room is painted a cheery yellow, but the focal point is a wood-burning fireplace flanked by windows. The dining room has elegant molding and a convenient butler’s pantry.

Just off the main hallway is a study with hardwood floors, custom built-in shelves, a wet bar and a large window with a built-in seat overlooking the yard. With its generously sized closet, this room easily could be used as a spare bedroom.

When more casual entertaining is in order, guests will flock to the sunny rear family room, which has a cathedral ceiling. This sunken room is made extra bright by a pair of skylights, arched windows and French doors leading to the backyard deck.

No expense was spared when it came to the designer kitchen and large breakfast area. The breakfast area overlooks the dining room and has French doors that lead onto the deck, making it easy to take advantage of the warm weather.

The kitchen features ceramic tile floors, Corian counters and white cabinets. The cabinetry adds to the light and lofty feel of the kitchen, while track lighting provides evening ambience.

There’s also a center island that doubles as a breakfast bar, perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat. Upgraded appliances include a dishwasher, double ovens with a cooktop, and a side-by-side stainless steel refrigerator with a deep freezer drawer.

Additional main-level rooms include a powder room and a laundry room with a utility sink and oak cabinetry.

There are five spacious second-floor bedrooms, including the well-appointed master suite with its cathedral ceiling. The walls are painted an earthy shade of green that, along with several large windows, helps bring the outdoors inside.

Additional features in the master suite include two walk-in closets and a private master bath with ceramic tile flooring. There’s also an inviting sunken whirlpool tub in the center of the bathroom.

Each of the bedrooms has neutral-color carpeting and a good amount of closet space.

The home has a great flow for entertaining, and the lower level was designed with that in mind. In addition to having plenty of space for the owners’ billiard table, the completely finished lower level also has a recreation area, a guest room and a fully equipped second kitchen with ceramic tile floors.

Ideal when entertaining friends and family, this kitchen has maple cabinets, a refrigerator, oven, a deep stainless steel sink and a built-in wine cooler.

French doors open for easy access to a large covered patio.

For the handyman of the household, there’s also a huge storage and workshop room on the lower level.

One of the great things about Columbia is that residents don’t have to venture far from their community to access everyday conveniences. A grocery store and other retail establishments, a senior center and a community center are all within the neighborhood’s Harper’s Choice Village Center.
