RICHMOND — George Allen’s campaign for a U.S. Senate seat in Virginia said Wednesday it raised $1.1 million for the second quarter.
According the the group’s website, 82 percent of the money came from Virginia donors and the campaign for the Republican candidate has raise more than a million dollars for the second straight quarter. The campaign has raised a total of $2.6 million from more than 5,00 donors, the group also said.
“Washington liberals seem to think the economy is on the right track, but that ignores the realities of what hard working men and women are facing every day,” said Mr. Allen, a former Virginia governor who lost the Senate seat in 2006. “I look forward to working with Virginians to reinvigorate our economy with pro-growth policies that will help create jobs, unleash our energy resources and restore the promise of the American dream.”
Mr. Allen is the presumptive GOP front-runner in the race and is expected to face Democrat Tim Kaine, another former Virginia governor, for the seat of retiring Sen. Jim Webb, a Democrat.
