BRISTOL, CONN. (AP) - The Americans’ wild quarterfinal win over Brazil earned the highest preliminary television rating for a Women’s World Cup game since the 1999 tournament in the United States.
The U.S. victory on penalty kicks Sunday drew a 2.6 overnight rating. ESPN said Monday that was the best on any network since the ’99 World Cup captivated American fans, and the second-highest ever for a game on ESPN.
Ratings measure the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program. Overnights represent the nation’s largest markets.
