BEIJING (AP) - Health ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa have pledged to explore and promote technology transfers to poor countries to help improve their public health systems.
The countries also said they would collaborate with international health organizations like the World Health Organization and UNAIDS to increase access to affordable, safe and effective medicines and vaccines. They also urged WHO members, particularly developed nations, to provide it funding.
The meeting Monday was the first ministerial-level meeting of health officials from the bloc of emerging countries. The five BRICS members account for 40 percent of the world’s population.
