Sanchez wins Stage 9; Voeckler takes over first
SAINT-FLOUR, France — Spain’s Luis Leon Sanchez won the ninth stage of the Tour de France on a wild day of crashes, while France’s Thomas Voeckler finished second to take the leader’s yellow jersey from Thor Hushovd.
Among those caught in the mayhem was defending champion Alberto Contador, who overcame another crash, banging his troublesome right knee after an early spill. He finished the stage in 12th place.
Sanchez moved into second place overall, followed by Australia’s Cadel Evans.
Veteran Kazakh rider Alexandre Vinokourov fractured his right thigh bone and withdrew after crashing near the halfway point of the 129-mile route from Issoire to Saint-Flour in the Massif Central. He was to be taken by helicopter to La Pitie Salpetriere hospital in Paris.

Stricker posts third straight victory in John Deere Classic
SILVIS, Ill. — Steve Stricker sank a 25-foot putt from off the 18th green Sunday to win the John Deere Classic for the third straight year.
The putt capped a roller coaster afternoon for Stricker, who led by five strokes when he made the turn, fell behind rookie Kyle Stanley by two shots on the back nine, then birdied the final two holes to close with a 2-under 69.
Stricker became just the 10th different golfer since World War II to win a tournament three straight times. He finished at 22-under 262 to beat Stanley by one stroke.
Stanley kept the lead by salvaging par on 17 after sending his tee shot into a grove of trees, but he missed a 10 1/2-foot par putt on 18 to open the door for Stricker.
Seo leads by one as weather spoils Women’s Open again
COLORADO SPRINGS — Hee Kyung Seo of South Korea held a one-shot lead in the final round of the U.S. Women’s Open when play was suspended for the fourth straight day.
Seo made four straight birdies to finish her front nine Sunday and make the turn in 5-under 31. She gave a shot back on No. 10 but was still at 4 under for the tournament with eight holes to play, one shot ahead of Angela Stanford and two in front of So Yeon Ryu.
Players were trying to get through 36 holes in one day at the Broadmoor, where rainstorms have interrupted play every day. The day began with Mika Miyazato in the lead at 5 under par, but she shot 5-over 76 in the third round to fall down the leader board.

Isner sweeps past Rochus, wins Hall of Fame Championships
NEWPORT, R.I. — Top-seeded John Isner had an overpowering serve all week at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, and it didn’t desert him in Sunday’s final.
Isner became the first top-seeded player to win the title in the 35-year history of the tournament at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, beating sixth-seeded Olivier Rochus, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) on Newport’s grass courts.
The 6-foot-9 Isner pulled out the victory over the 30-year-old Belgian in a contrast of styles. The 5-6 Rochus, the shortest player on the ATP Tour, relies on steady groundstrokes and array of slicing returns.
