CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Browns hit the road to interview Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey for their coaching job.
President Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert met with Mularkey in Atlanta on Saturday. The Falcons (13-3) have a first-round playoff bye and Mularkey, who spent two seasons as Buffalo’s coach, broke away from planning for the interview.
He previously canceled a meeting with Denver, but kept his appointment with the Browns because they called him first.
On Friday, the Browns interviewed St. Louis offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Next week, they intend to interview Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell and perhaps Philadelphia offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.
The Browns fired Eric Mangini on Monday, one day after a 41-9 loss to Pittsburgh ended his second consecutive 5-11 season.
