MADISON, WIS. (AP) - Wisconsin has given football coach Bret Bielema a contract extension after he led the Badgers to their first Rose Bowl since 2000.
The University of Wisconsin Athletic Board on Friday approved extending Bielema’s five-year contract through Jan. 31, 2016. Terms were not disclosed.
Bielema has led the Badgers to a 49-16 record and a bowl game in each of his five seasons, going 2-3 in those bowl games. The Badgers finished last season 11-2 and won a share of the Big Ten title for the first time since 1999.
The No. 4 Badgers lost to No. 3 TCU 21-19 in the Rose Bowl and finished ranked seventh in the final Associated Press poll.
Wisconsin’s record of 21-5 over the past two years is seventh-best in the country.
