If you’re outraged by the antics that were performed by the lame-duck Congress, there is a simple solution. All that is required is for the states to amend their constitutions to specify that upon the certification of any national election, the incumbent senators and representatives be immediately recalled and replaced by whoever prevailed in the just-completed elections. These replacements would serve until the new Congress convenes, when they would assume office in their own right as prescribed by the federal Constitution.

Another solution would be to amend the Constitution to outlaw lame-duck sessions, but that would require the craven politicians already in office to vote to limit their own power. This will never happen; it is the nature of all governments to expand and abuse their power at the expense of the people. Accordingly, the federal government will need to be disciplined from below.
