GAINESVILLE, FLA. (AP) - John Brantley’s father says the Florida quarterback is staying for his senior season.
Brantley considered transferring after coach Urban Meyer stepped down last month, wanting to see if he might find a better fit elsewhere. But his father, John Brantley, told The Associated Press in a text message Friday that Brantley has “been a Gator his whole life and no reason to change now.”
Brantley completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,061 yards, with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season. Brantley was a misfit in Meyer’s spread offense, and the coach eventually had Trey Burton and Jordan Reed share snaps.
Brantley, one of the country’s top recruits in 2007, will get a fresh start under new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis.
