The Miami Hurricanes are hiring Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch as their offensive coordinator, a person with knowledge of the selection process told The Associated Press.
Fisch has accepted the job, and the hiring could be formally cleared by university officials Thursday or Friday, said the person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the process is not “completely finalized.”
Fisch will remain with the Seahawks for the remainder of their playoff run.
At Miami, he will replace Mark Whipple, who spent two seasons with the Hurricanes. He was not retained by new Miami coach Al Golden.
Fisch is a Florida graduate who spent nine of the past 10 years working in the NFL, including this season in Seattle. He has also worked in Houston, Baltimore and Denver, plus spent a season as offensive coordinator at the University of Minnesota.
He already has close ties with some members of the Miami staff. Fisch is leaving Pete Carroll’s staff with the Seahawks; Carroll’s son Brennan is Miami’s newly hired national recruiting coordinator.
Fisch, who worked under Steve Spurrier as a graduate assistant with the Gators, has also worked as a high school coach in talent-rich Florida.
Golden has said often in recent weeks that he targeted an offensive coordinator with NFL ties.
