STARKVILLE, MISS. (AP) - Mississippi State has hired Geoff Collins as its co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
The 16-year coaching veteran comes to MSU after one season as defensive coordinator at Florida International. He helped the Panthers to their first bowl win in school history, beating Toledo in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl one year after a 3-9 finish in 2009.
FIU’s defense led the Sun Belt in total defense, scoring defense, pass efficiency defense and turnover margin.
Before going to FIU, Collins spent two seasons as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Central Florida.
He will share coordinator responsibilities with Chris Wilson, who was promoted after Manny Diaz left to become defensive coordinator at Texas.
