WASHINGTON (AP) — A Washington lobbyist who was the wife of a White House adviser was found dead inside a burning car in Southeast Washington on Monday.
Progress Energy Inc. issued a statement saying Ashley Turton, a lobbyist for the company, had died. Property records show she and her husband, Dan Turton, lived at the Southeast Washington home where D.C. firefighters found a body in a burning car.
Fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said firefighters were called to the rowhouse and found a car engulfed in flames.
Mike Hughes, a spokesman for Raleigh, N.C.-based Progress Energy, said co-workers are devastated to hear Mrs. Turton died so tragically. He said she was the mother of three young children.
Mrs. Turton joined the company in 2007 after serving as chief of staff for Rep. Rosa DeLauro, Connecticut Democrat.
Mr. Turton is White House deputy director of legislative affairs for the U.S. House of Representatives.
