GENOA, ITALY (AP) - Doctors say Formula One driver Robert Kubica is responding well to treatment and will have more surgery to stabilize a broken foot and shoulder suffered in a rally car crash.
Lotus Renault said surgery on Thursday would stabilize Kubica’s right shoulder and right foot. He will need another operation on his elbow a few days later.
The 26-year-old Polish driver underwent seven hours of surgery Sunday after a crash in northern Italy. His right hand was badly damaged but surgeons averted the need for amputation.
Dr. Giorgio Barabino, head of intensive care at Santa Corona hospital, told ANSA news agency that Kubica was improving and responding well to treatment.
