OPINION:
President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton apparently have discovered a new word - “democracy.” Even as they try to rein in democracy in our country, they have become outspoken advocates for democracy in Egypt.
The pair suggest that Egyptian leaders need to be more sensitive to the needs of the people protesting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s rule. This is something Mr. Obama and his Democratic colleagues in the 111th Congress steadfastly ignored at home as they passed legislation such as the stimulus, Obamacare and New START and ended “don’t ask, don’t tell” - against the wishes of the majority of Americans. Also, it was not that long ago that Mr. Obama turned his back on democratic factions in the streets of Iran and imposed sanctions on Honduras for exercising its democratic process. It’s the height of hypocrisy.
