CHICAGO (AP) - The president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association says music director Riccardo Muti has been treated for superficial facial injuries after fainting during rehearsal.
Deborah Rutter told the audience at Thursday night’s performance that Muti was being hospitalized overnight, but was alert and in good spirits. She said he asked for the scores of works he plans to conduct soon.
Muti was replaced Thursday night by pianist and conductor Mitsuko Uchida. Conductor Leonard Slatkin of the striking Detroit Symphony Orchestra was to conduct Friday’s concert.
In October, Muti was hospitalized in Italy for extreme physical exhaustion. He withdrew from his fall CSO residency, but was cleared for the winter concert series, which began Thursday night and runs through Feb. 19.
