SARASOTA, FLA. (AP) - Vladimir Guerrero finalized an $8 million, 1-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.

The free agent slugger agreed to terms Feb. 4 on a deal that was contingent upon him passing his physical. The physical was delayed until Wednesday because of scheduling conflicts.

Guerrero completed the deal Friday morning, and the Orioles scheduled an afternoon news conference to announce his arrival. He will serve as Baltimore’s designated hitter and bat cleanup.

The 36-year-old Guerrero is a career .320 hitter with 436 home runs in 15 major league seasons. He has won eight Silver Slugger Awards and is only the 14th player in history to hit at least .300 with 400 doubles and 400 home runs.

His contract calls for $3 million of his salary to be deferred. He can earn additional award bonuses for All-Star, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, MVP, World Series MVP, league championship series MVP and designated hitter of the year.
