SARASOTA, FLA. (AP) - Vladimir Guerrero has been given a physical by the Baltimore Orioles, the final hurdle before he can sign a contract and officially join the club.
The exam took place Wednesday morning. The results are not expected to be announced until Friday.
Guerrero has agreed to terms on a one-year, $8 million contract on Feb. 4, but scheduling conflicts kept delaying his physical.
Guerrero is expected to bat fourth as the designated hitter in the Orioles’ revamped lineup, which also includes third baseman Mark Reynolds, first baseman Derrek Lee and shortstop J.J. Hardy. Luke Scott is expected to play left field.
Center fielder Adam Jones says the addition of Guerrero to the batting order “throws away a lot of question marks and makes things easier.”
