SALES JOB: Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is trying to convince investors and his employees that he did the right thing when he decided to dump his company’s smart-phone software and shift over to Microsoft Corp.’s instead.

THREE-HORSE RACE: Elop is betting that Nokia and Microsoft will be mount a serious challenge Apple Inc.’s iPhone and phones running on Google Inc.’s Android software.

SKEPTICAL RESPONSE: Nokia’s stock plunged 14 percent after the Microsoft partnership was announced Friday, and then slipped even further Monday. Employees expressed their dismay by cutting out of work early Friday.
