Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, said Sunday the United States will “stand by Israel without equivocation” as Egypt transitions to a new government.

Mr. Graham, appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, warned that the transition will “define Egypt and the region for decades. A rushed election could help organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood.”

“This could be a good thing for the region, or it could all fall apart,” he said. “So you get one chance to get this right. My advice is to take your time, reach out to the world at large.

“People want to help,” he said.

The senator said it may be unrealistic for “free and fair” elections to be held in September, as has been announced.
