BALTIMORE (AP) - The Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Jeremy Guthrie have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.
Guthrie was seeking $6.5 million and the club offered $5 million. Instead of hammering out their differences at an arbitration next week, the sides reached a compromise.
The agreement was announced Friday.
By securing Guthrie, the Orioles avoided an arbitration hearing with all their eligible players. The last time they presented a case was in 2006 with pitcher Rodrigo Lopez.
The 31-year-old Guthrie went 11-14 with a 3.83 ERA in 2010. He lead the Orioles in wins and starts (32).
He had a 4-11 record through July 28 but won seven of his final 10 decisions.
