We’re gratified that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), through an open and transparent process, has granted LightSquared’s request to create a network capable of satellite and terrestrial wireless communication across the U.S. (“Obama to America: Get lost,” Comment & Analysis, Tuesday).

This broadband network will enable consumers, business and governments access to voice calling and data anywhere in the United States, even the most remote locations in which there is no other form of communications. We’ve been serving government agencies that provide public safety, emergency response operations for the last 15 years.

Our radio licences are near global positioning system (GPS) radio spectrum, so we’re working closely with the GPS community in order to scope out and resolve any potential issues. We’re still in the development stage, but we’re encouraged by tests using the spectrum in our band’s newly-created filters. This is standard procedure for any new technology or radio service offering.

Like all who have been granted licenses, we have the responsibility to ensure that we operate safely within our spectrum. We’ve made that pledge to the FCC, fellow spectrum holders and the American people.
