OPINION:
I would like to point out several problems with “going green.”
I live in Florida and will not consider an electric car because hurricanes there cause power outages that can last for weeks. When this happens, electric cars cannot be charged. If I lived north of the Mason-Dixon line, the same problem would exist with snow- and ice storms. Traffic lights using light-emitting diodes that don’t generate heat are also put out of commission by such winter weather.
Wind turbines use rare-earth magnets. China exports most of the rare earth used in the world. When Japan held a Chinese sea captain for a maritime violation, China halted shipment of rare earth to Japan until he was released. This could have happened in U.S. waters.
It would be interesting to learn how many people who converted to solar power lost power when their roofs were covered by a foot of snow or how much damage was done to solar panels by ice storms. The recent snow-accumulation and cold-weather records, broken several times, make one wonder if global-warming predictions are still convincing.
