WASHINGTON (AP) — President Obama told Pakistan’s president in a telephone call Sunday that the NATO airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers last weekend were not deliberate attacks and that the U.S. is committed to a full investigation.
The strikes along the border with Afghanistan have further strained ties between the U.S. and Pakistan as the Obama administration tries to wind down the war in Afghanistan.
The White House said Mr. Obama and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed their countries’ relationship and agreed to keep in close touch.
