Zuckerberg vacations in Vietnam over holiday
Vietnam may block its citizens from using Facebook, but that didn’t stop website founder Mark Zuckerberg from vacationing in the communist country.
Mr. Zuckerberg spent Christmas Eve in the popular tourist destination Ha Long Bay, local official Trinh Dang Thanh said.
According to the Associated Press, state-run media said Mr. Zuckerberg arrived in Vietnam on Dec. 22.
Mr. Zuckerberg spent Christmas Day at an ecolodge in the northern mountain town of Sapa and rode a buffalo, said Le Phuc Thien, deputy manager at Topas Ecolodge.
Mr. Zuckerberg, Facebook’s 27-year-old CEO, founded the social networking site in 2004.
Vietnam’s aggressive Internet censors block access to Facebook and other websites, but young Vietnamese easily bypass the restrictions.
McConaughey proposes to longtime girlfriend
Actor Matthew McConaughey took advantage of the Christmas holidays to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Brazilian model Camila Alves, the Hollywood heartthrob told his Internet followers.
“Just asked Camila to marry me. Merry Christmas,” Mr. McConaughey, 42, said in a message posted on Twitter and WhoSay late Sunday, Agence France-Presse reports. The messages were accompanied by a photograph of the couple kissing in front of a Christmas tree.
Ms. Alves, 28, and Mr. McConaughey started dating in 2006 and have two children: Levi, 3; and Vida, who turns 2 next month.
The star of “Lincoln Lawyer” and 2008’s “Tropic Thunder” was proclaimed the “sexiest man alive” by People magazine in 2005.
Man wanted in rapper’s death surrenders to police
A man charged with killing an Atlanta rapper at a recording studio has turned himself in to police, according to the Associated Press.
WSB-TV reports that Vinson Hardimon, known as rapper Young Vito, surrendered to Atlanta police Monday afternoon. He was handcuffed and taken to the Fulton County jail.
Police say the 28-year-old shot and killed 24-year-old Mario Hamilton, known as rapper Slim Dunkin, on Dec. 16 at an Atlanta recording studio.
Detective David Quinn said police still need more information in the case. He said Mr. Hardimon’s attorney called police and said his client wanted to surrender.
Coroner: Rapper Heavy D died of natural causes
The Los Angeles coroner’s office says Jamaican-born rapper Heavy D died of natural causes, the Associated Press reports.
The self-proclaimed “overweight lover” of hip-hop, who became one of rap’s top hit makers with a combination of humor and positivity, collapsed outside his Beverly Hills home on Nov. 8. The 44-year-old rapper, whose real name was Dwight Errington, died later at a hospital.
Coroner’s office spokesman Craig Harvey said Tuesday that weight and a transcontinental jet flight were contributing factors.
The cause of death was pulmonary embolism and deep leg vein thrombosis. He also had arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Heavy D became one of the genre’s most integral stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His hit “The Overweight Lover’s in the House” played up his hefty frame.
Divorce officially ends Gibson’s 31-year marriage
Actor and director Mel Gibson has been officially divorced from his estranged wife Robyn Moore after a 31-year marriage, court records showed.
According to Agence France-Presse, a judge made the divorce official on Friday without revealing publicly the terms of the settlement with the troubled Oscar winner, who is believed to be worth some $900 million.
The couple separated in 2006, shortly after Mr. Gibson was arrested for drunken driving and made an anti-Semitic tirade at police on the scene that triggered a major scandal around the world.
Mr. Gibson, who won academy awards for best director and best picture for “Braveheart,” had six sons and one daughter with Ms. Moore since they married in 1980.
He also has a 2-year-old daughter, Lucia, from his relationship with Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva.
In August, the 55-year-old star struck a deal with Ms. Grigorieva for joint custody of the girl.
Mr. Gibson avoided jail time in March when he decided not to appeal domestic violence charges made by Ms. Grigorieva last year.
He was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to attend a domestic violence counseling program.
