An eight-year veteran Metropolitan Police Department officer was convicted Wednesday of attempting to receive stolen property, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District said.

Dioni Fernandez, 35, was found guilty after a four-day trial and is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 27.

Authorities say Fernandez, who was assigned to the 4th District, was selling iPads that he understood to be stolen. He was arrested in March after he was caught in a police sting.

Two other MPD officers arrested the same day as Fernandez have already pleaded guilty to attempting to receive stolen property.

Silvestre Bonilla, 31, is awaiting sentencing. Guillermo Ortiz, 41, was fined $2,000, placed on two years of supervised probation and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service. Ortiz resigned from the department.
