The Maryland Republican Party appointed a new executive director Friday.
David Ferguson, a 26-year-old marketing executive and former campaign consultant, will head up the state GOP, replacing interim director and current state Delegate Justin D. Ready.
Mr. Ready, Carroll Republican, took over in July as interim director after former director Kim Jorns resigned to lead Michigan’s GOP chapter.
Maryland’s Republican Party often faces uphill battles in the predominantly-Democratic state, and has run into financial trouble recently, announcing last month that it was more than $100,000 in debt and plans to move its Annapolis headquarters.
“Despite the challenges we face, I have promised to lead an effective organization that will communicate a conservative vision of lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, and creating the best environment in America to live, work, and raise a family,” Mr. Ferguson said in a statement.
The party could soon have more turnover, as state GOP Chairman Alex X. Mooney announced Thursday he may leave office next year to run for Congress.
