Four people were shot in three separate incidents in the District within an hour Monday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Two of the shootings left adult men either dead or in serious condition in Northeast and Northwest.

The first shooting, which police are investigating as a possible suicide, was reported at about 5:48 p.m. near Mount Vernon Square, said MPD spokesman Officer Hugh Carew. Someone reported seeing a man shot in a vehicle, and officers found the victim with a gunshot inside a car in the 1100 block of 11th Street Northwest.

The second shooting was reported at about 6 p.m. in a Northeast neighborhood east of Catholic University. A man was shot in an alley between Taylor Street and Taussig Place Northeast. Neighbors gathered at the scene said he was trying to run away when he collapsed outside a home in the 1000 block of Taylor Street.

The man was conscious and breathing when taken to the hospital but about an hour after the shooting. Homicide detectives were called to the scene, a sign that either the man had died or suffered critical injuries, Officer Carew said.

Two teenage boys were also shot, but both conscious and breathing, at 7:05 p.m., in the 3400 block of 22nd Street Southeast. Police investigators had called a canine unit to the scene, likely to search for a gun, Officer Carew said.
