Kevin B. Chavous, a key challenger for the Ward 7 D.C. Council seat in next year’s elections, was arrested early Friday on accusations he offered money to an undercover officer “for sexual favors,” the Metropolitan Police Department said.
Mr. Chavous was charged with solicitation of a prostitute after the alleged incident at 12:06 a.m. in the unit block of K Street in Northeast, police spokeswoman Tisha Gant said.
Mr. Chavous, 27, could not immediately be reached for comment on the arrest, which was first reported by The Washington Post. The son of former council member Kevin P. Chavous, he had been raising money and support for his bid to unseat Yvette M. Alexander as the Ward 7 representative on the council.
He has raised nearly $29,000 for his campaign and spent more than $18,000, leaving about $10,000 on hand, according to his Dec. 10 filing with the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance.
