Steelers’ Harrison suspended one game for hit on McCoy

PITTSBURGH — Steelers linebacker James Harrison has been suspended for one game without pay for his hit last week on Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy.

Harrison, who can appeal, laid a helmet-to-facemask hit on McCoy during the Steelers’ 14-3 victory over the Browns. The 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year was penalized for roughing the passer on the play.

• The Washington Redskins signed tight end Richard Quinn and placed nose tackle Chris Baker on injured reserve. Quinn, 25, was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round (64th overall) in 2009. He has one career reception for 9 yards in 29 career games with four starts.

• Doug Baldwin blocked a first-quarter punt that was returned by Michael Robinson 17 yards for a touchdown, then caught a 29-yard TD pass from Tarvaris Jackson in the third quarter as the Seattle Seahawks pulled away for a 30-13 win over the St. Louis Rams on Monday night.

Gasol takes $58 million deal to stay with Grizzlies

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Marc Gasol and the Memphis Grizzlies agreed on a four-year deal worth nearly $58 million. Gasol, 26, teamed with Zach Randolph last season to help Memphis lead the NBA in scoring in the the paint at 51.5 points per game. Gasol averaged 15 points and 11.2 rebounds in the Grizzlies’ playoff run, an improvement from his averages of 11.7 points and 7.0, respectively, during the regular season.

Pirates acquire Brewers’ McGehee for reliever Veras

PITTSBURGH — The Pirates acquired third baseman Casey McGehee from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for reliever Jose Veras on Monday night. McGehee, 29, had a strong rookie season in 2009 and a big year in 2010, but slumped at the plate in 2011. He batted .223 with 13 homers and 67 RBI a year after hitting .285 with 23 home runs and 104 RBI.

• The Colorado Rockies bolstered their depth at catcher, agreeing with veteran Ramon Hernandez on a two-year deal.

• Left-hander Dontrelle Willis agreed on a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

BOXING

Commission reverses ruling on Hopkins’ TKO defeat

LOS ANGELES — The California State Athletic Commission has overturned Bernard Hopkins’ second-round TKO loss to Chad Dawson in October, declaring the bout to be a no-decision. The commission’s move means Hopkins, 46, still has never lost a fight by stoppage in his 23-year career.
