Occupy D.C. turns on Democrats

The Occupy D.C. camp is also turning its attention on Democrats’ influence and connection to Wall Street. The group is holding a protest Thursday night outside what it calls a “big-dollar, closed-door” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser in downtown Washington.

“On the two-month anniversary of Occupy D.C. representing the voices and interests of the 99 percent, we will march on a Democratic Party fundraiser charging $5,000-$75,000 a dinner,” the group said. “This elitist event is indicative of how the Democrats represent a major part of our government’s failure to represent 99 percent of its citizenry.”

The D.C. group follows Occupy Wall Street protesters who on Wednesday night marched to a Midtown hotel to protest a fundraising event for President Obama.

“The party is part and parcel of a government in which about half of congressional members and most major presidential candidates are 1-percenters — a government of the 1 percent, by the 1 percent and for the 1 percent.” the D.C. group continued. “Because no party is representing the 99 percent. And because money should never equal speech, we are marching on a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. … The DCCC is a vehicle for the 1 percent’s influence in the Democratic Party and in America as a whole.”

The group reports the DCCC has already given roughly $50,000 this election cycle for PAC for Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo and Citigroup.
