The enclave of Potomac Falls in Maryland may be one of the most exclusive communities in the Washington area.

The 261 estates in Potomac Falls, each sited on two or more acres, are bordered by the C&O Canal National Historical Park, which includes the waterfalls on the Potomac River. Residents may love their seclusion, but they also can appreciate the location near shops and restaurants in Potomac Village and within easy reach of downtown Washington.

One of Potomac Falls’ most spectacular homes, at 9206 Belmart Road, is on the market for $3,995,000. This French manor estate, set on two lots that total 3.3 acres, includes an elegant circular cobblestone drive, a spacious brick terrace, manicured landscaping and a heated swimming pool.

Adjacent to the swimming pool is an expansive cabana accessible from the main level through an atrium surrounded by French doors and a glass roof. The cabana includes a pool/party room with a hot tub, screened walls, tiled flooring, recessed lighting and two ceiling fans. French doors open from the cabana to the brick terrace that leads to the swimming pool, while a few steps lead inside into the adjacent party room.

The party room has a kitchenette with a state-of-the-art grill and barbecue, a glass-front refrigerator, a storage closet, tile flooring, a ceiling fan and a vaulted, paneled ceiling. Two sets of French doors link this party room with the pool terrace. In addition, there is an adjacent dressing room with a closet, a built-in bench and a powder room.

The interior spaces of this home, which has approximately 9,500 finished square feet, are just as dramatic and elegant as the grounds and pool area. French doors open off the front walkway into a grand reception hall for guests that includes terra-cotta tile flooring with inlaid black tile detailing, a chandelier, recessed lighting, faux-painted walls and crown molding.

Off the reception hall is a library with six sets of French doors, a chandelier, a ceiling with beams and panels, a wood-burning fireplace, and three sets of built-in bookcases.

The adjacent living room stretches across nearly 40 by 20 square feet and has five sets of French doors. The living room features a wood-burning fireplace, a ceiling with beams and panels, terra-cotta tile flooring, a wet bar and an adjacent powder room.

The main level also features a banquet-size formal dining room with a 20-foot ceiling and French doors flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows. The dining room has terra-cotta tile flooring, a built-in china cabinet, a wrought-iron chandelier and a wood-burning fireplace.

French doors link the dining room with the country kitchen, which has terra-cotta tile flooring, a chandelier over the tiled breakfast bar and center island, a built-in bookcase, tiled counters and a pocket door to the room-size pantry. The kitchen has a beamed and paneled wood ceiling and stainless steel appliances and opens to a breakfast room with three sets of French doors and two built-in bookcases.

The main level also has a second powder room and access to both two-car garages.

Upstairs, the master bedroom suite covers the entire western wing of the upper level and includes a bedroom with a bay window and a paneled and beamed wood ceiling, three sets of French doors, two built-in bookcases and a fireplace. The suite has a window seat in the entrance gallery, two dressing rooms, including one with a built-in desk, and French doors to a private balcony. The master bath has marble flooring, a vaulted ceiling, a whirlpool tub and a glass steam shower.

The upper level also has a second bedroom suite with a private full bath and two more bedrooms that share a connecting bath. This level has a laundry room.

The finished lower level has a recreation room with a stone tile floor, a custom-designed wet bar, a wine cellar with storage and a billiards table that conveys with the home. A second recreation room has a fireplace, two windows with plantation shutters, and built-in speakers. This level also has a fully-equipped gym with mirrored walls and a sauna. In addition, there are a bedroom, a full bath and a large storage room with built-in shelving.

This home has a total of five bedrooms, four full baths, three half baths, five wood-burning fireplaces and five zones of heating and cooling systems.
