DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers are keeping general manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Jim Leyland under contract beyond this year.
The team announced Monday that Dombrowski has agreed to a four-year extension and Leyland has been retained through the 2012 season. Both were in the last year of their deals.
Detroit has a four-game lead in the AL Central. The Tigers haven’t won a division title since 1987.
Dombrowski is also the team president and CEO. He was hired by the Tigers shortly after the 2001 season. He helped turn around the franchise, which played in the 2006 World Series with Leyland as a first-year manager with the team.
Tigers owner Mike Ilitch says Dombrowski has built a foundation that has given the team a chance to win every year.
