OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms with veteran running back Ricky Williams.
The Ravens announced the deal Monday, pending Williams passing a physical Tuesday.
Williams played for the Miami Dolphins last season. The 34-year-old split time with Ronnie Brown in Miami and averaged 4.2 yards per carry. He rushed for 673 yards and scored two touchdowns.
With the Ravens, Williams will play behind starter Ray Rice.
Williams has rushed for 9,569 career yards and 68 touchdowns, recording 325 receptions for 2,523 yards and eight touchdowns.
A former Pro Bowler, Williams rushed for a career-high 1,853 yards to lead the league in 2002.
“He’s an awesome player,” quarterback Joe Flacco said.
Williams has a history of failed drug tests for marijuana and has been suspended by the NFL previously. He has also retired in the past only to return to football.
He has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which was treated successfully with therapy and medication.
“I think those things are way, way, way in the past,” Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said. “My relationship, my experience with him, there is no risk, but we’re all human. There’s risk with everybody. We all make mistakes. Ricky’s not perfect, but I know he’s got a great heart and he’s a great football player.”
Torn biceps tendon sidelines Cardinals’ Wilson
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson has a torn right biceps tendon and will try to rehabilitate the injury to avoid surgery that would sideline him for a longer period.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt would give no timetable for Wilson’s return other than to say he expects the four-time Pro Bowler to play this season. Wilson, 31, who has played all 10 of his NFL seasons with Arizona, was injured Saturday while attempting to tackle running back Beanie Wells.
