Georgetown played one of the toughest schedules in the nation on the way to an NCAA tournament appearance last season, and the Hoyas appear set to follow a similar path in the 2011-12 campaign.

The Hoyas have at least 16 games against teams that played in the postseason a year ago over the course of the schedule released Wednesday.

That gauntlet includes such nonconference highlights as a Nov. 21 matchup against Kansas at the Maui Invitational, a potential meeting with UCLA in the second round of that tournament and a Dec. 22 game against Memphis at Verizon Center.

Of course, that’s just the warmup for the grueling Big East schedule, which features a home date with defending national champion Connecticut (Feb. 1). The Hoyas also host NCAA-tested foes Marquette (Jan. 4), Cincinnati (Jan. 9), St. John’s (Feb. 12), Villanova (Feb. 25) and Notre Dame (Feb. 27) at Verizon Center.

Key road games include the conference opener at Louisville (Dec. 28), a trip to Pittsburgh (Jan. 28) and the always-anticipated Syracause matchup (Feb. 8).

The Hoyas will open the season with home games against Savannah State (Nov. 12) and UNC-Greensboro (Nov. 14) before heading to Maui.
