Taylor Swift visits Abe in post-concert jaunt
What better way to conclude your night than with a visit with Abe Lincoln? That’s how pop-country star Taylor Swift ended her first evening in the District.
After finishing her Tuesday concert at the Verizon Center, the four-time Grammy Award winner made her way with some friends to the Lincoln Memorial to pose next to the statue of Lincoln.
“After the show, we went to see Abe!! Pretty magical,” the 21-year-old songstress tweeted at about 2 a.m., linking to a picture of her in a white dress at the historic monument.
The late-night visit could be seen as a rite of passage for Miss Swift, as the recording artist had skipped her junior high school’s class field trip to the Lincoln Memorial.
“It was my first time seeing the Lincoln Memorial up close (missed the school trip in 8th grade cause I had a show),” Miss Swift tweeted.
Last week, the Daily Caller reported that seven members of Congress, including six Republicans, would hold fundraisers at Miss Swift’s Verizon Center concerts this week. The chart-topping singer’s second D.C. show was scheduled for Wednesday.
Charlie Sheen’s character to be killed off on ’Men’
Not only was troubled actor Charlie Sheen kicked off “Two and a Half Men” this year, but the comedian’s television character reportedly will be killed off in the show’s Sept. 19 season premiere, according to Deadline.
The first episode of the season reportedly will feature the funeral of Mr. Sheen’s character, Charlie Harper, and introduce the program’s new star, Ashton Kutcher. The site goes on to report that Harper’s former girlfriends make an appearance in his honor and his Malibu Beach home will go on sale.
Mr. Sheen came under fire this year after he went on a highly publicized drug binge and repeatedly publicly disparaged “Two and a Half Men” creator Chuck Lorre. Mr. Sheen’s live-in girlfriends, whom he called his “goddesses,” also raised eyebrows. In a February interview with radio host Alex Jones, Sheen insulted Lorre as well as the “trolls” who disagreed with the “winning” celebrity’s wild lifestyle.
“I got magic and I got poetry in my fingertips, most of the time, and this includes naps,” Mr. Sheen said. “I’m an F-18, bro, and I will destroy you in the air and I will deploy my ordinance to the ground.”
In late February, CBS canceled the rest of the eighth season of “Two and a Half Men” in the aftermath of Mr. Sheen’s rants. Deadline reported in May that Mr. Kutcher would replace Mr. Sheen.
According to the Associated Press, CBS Entertainment chief Nina Tassler said Wednesday that Mr. Kutcher will play “an Internet billionaire with a broken heart.” His character is named Walden Schmidt and has no family connection to the characters played by continuing stars Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones, who portrayed the brother and nephew of Mr. Sheen’s character.
Ms. Tassler would not confirm reports that the new season begins with the death of Mr. Sheen’s character.
Hundreds apply to adopt kitten with Hitler markings
Everyone needs love, even cats that look like Adolf Hitler.
The English kitten, dubbed Kitler because the black patch of fur under her nose is reminiscent of Hitler’s distinctive mustache, finally has found a family to love her.
Last week, The Telegraph reported that potential pet owners repeatedly overlooked the kitten at the Wood Green Animal Shelter because the 6-week-old feline lost the genetic lottery.
“Kitler is an adorable little girl who will make a wonderful addition to the right family,” shelter spokeswoman Tara Dundon told the publication.
The nationwide publicity of the kitten’s situation inspired hundreds of adoption requests, according to the animal shelter’s blog.
“[W]e have been absolutely amazed at the response we’ve had - over 500 telephone calls and emails from all over the world,” the site said.
Of the large pool of interested applicants, one family was accepted to take her in.
“We are delighted to say that we have now found a wonderful, loving home for Luminus (aka Kitler) and we hope this will be the start of a long and happy life for her, now that she has a second chance,” the site said.
