Gene Simmons: 2012 ticket should be Perry-Rice
Two weeks after predicting that Texas Gov. Rick Perry will oust President Obama from the White House in 2012, Kiss bassist Gene Simmons suggested that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would make a fine running mate for Mr. Perry.
In a series of tweets Friday, Mr. Simmons waded back into political waters, suggesting the Perry-Rice presidential ticket.
“Wanna play a Political Game? Here’s a hard ticket to beat - Gov Perry and Condoleezza Rice,” the musician tweeted.
Mr. Simmons went on to explain why he views Miss Rice favorably.
“Met her in Stockholm & she struck me as politically savvy as anyone I’ve met in gov’mt,” Mr. Simmons wrote in another tweet. “She won’t run for VP, but this ticket is a winner.”
Earlier this month, Mr. Simmons expressed confidence that Mr. Perry would be the next president, citing his own voting history as evidence: “I voted for Pres Bush. I voted for Pres Clinton. I voted for Pres Obama. The next president will be Gov Rick Perry … Gov Perry worked for Al Gore and then switched to Republican. He will be our next President. I’ve never been wrong.”
While Mr. Simmons has faith that the Perry-Rice ticket is a winner, the rock star clarified via Twitter that he hasn’t yet announced who he’ll vote for next year.
“Hear ye, hear ye. I have never stated who I will vote for this coming Pres election,” Mr. Simmons wrote Friday. “However, I DO believe Gov Perry will surge ahead. And, said so. Today, CNN reports he’s on top of the GOP polls & he has barely run.”
Mr. Simmons went on to say that he doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Mr. Perry on everything, but he believes Mr. Perry could soon occupy the Oval Office.
“I have problems w/ his social issues, but agree w/ his fiscal issues,” Mr. Simmons wrote. “Unless Pres Obama proves himself, the next Pres will be Gov Perry.”
Levine lashes out at MTV for network’s lack of music
Not all pop sensations worship MTV. Maroon 5 vocalist Adam Levine lashed out at the network and its Video Music Awards ceremony Saturday via Twitter for what he perceives as the channel’s lack of focus on music.
“the VMA’s [are the] one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music,” Mr. Levine wrote. “I’m drawing a line in the sand. [Forget] you VMA’s.”
The 32-year-old, whose band didn’t receive any VMA nominations, received a response from MTV less than a half-hour after he published the emotional tweet.
“Soooo you’ll be tuning in at 9/8C [Sunday] right?” MTV tweeted back.
Mr. Levine, who is on tour with embattled singer Gavin DeGraw and Train, made no apology for his statement and did not attend Sunday’s event.
“i may be a pop singer,” the guitarist tweeted Saturday evening, “but every once in a while the angsty teenager in me just blurts out some raw honesty. it’s a reflex.” The singer earlier wrote, “still waiting to have my ’jerry macguire mission statement moment of deep regret …’ not happening. phew!”
In 2008, MTV axed the popular show “Total Request Live,” which featured the top music videos of the day. The network now is home to nonmusical reality show “Jersey Shore,” which has earned the channel record-breaking ratings.
’Hunger Games’ trailer gives fans a first look
The first preview for the upcoming movie “The Hunger Games,” based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling science-fiction trilogy, debuted during Sunday’s Video Music Awards ceremony.
Though short, the highly anticipated clip featured Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence as the embattled, poor main character, Katniss, running through the woods.
The movie itself depicts a dystopian future in a city hosting the annual Hunger Games, which require one boy and one girl to fight to the death. When Katniss’ sister is randomly selected to participate in the gladiator-esque duel, Katniss volunteers herself instead.
The plot is complicated when Katniss learns she’s going to battle Peeta, a mysterious boy who gave her bread when she had been on the verge of starvation.
Previously released film stills show “Last Song” Australian Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Katniss’s best male friend, and “The Kids Are All Right” star Josh Hutcherson as Peeta.
The cast also includes “Our Idiot Brother” actress Elizabeth Banks as Katniss’s guide Effie, Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci as interviewer Caesar, “M*A*S*H” star Donald Sutherland, “Friends With Benefits” actor Woody Harrelson as town drunk Haymitch Abernathy, “American Beauty” star Wes Bentley as head game-maker Seneca, and singer Lenny Kravitz as stylist Cinna.
