JOBS RESIGNS: Steve Jobs, the creative force behind the iPhone, iPad and other devices that turned Apple Inc. into one of the world’s most powerful companies, resigned as CEO.

THE REASON: Jobs says he can no longer handle the job, but the company did not give specifics. He is elected Apple chairman.

THE REPLACEMENT: Apple’s chief operating officer, Tim Cook, was named CEO. He had been filling for Jobs while he was on medical leave.
