’Sex and the City’ stylist has her eye on first lady
Now that she’s done dressing up the chic fictional characters of “Sex and the City,” stylist Patricia Field is interested in giving first lady Michelle Obama some fashion pointers. Though a fan of Mrs. Obama’s attire, Miss Field said she believes she could be of some assistance to the first lady.
“Someone in the public eye who I would like to work with is Michelle Obama,” Miss Field told the Daily Mail. “Not because she always gets it wrong, because she gets it right. She dresses very nicely, I respect her look, but when it comes to her special-occasion clothes, I might be able to help her a bit, out of respect to her.”
Miss Field said she thinks she could help the first lady, who made Vanity Fair’s 2011 International Best-Dressed list, go above and beyond.
“I think I could enhance what she’s already doing, especially when it comes to special occasions,” Miss Field told the publication.
Earlier this year, fashion bigwig Oscar de la Renta said he was perplexed by Mrs. Obama’s dress selection for the state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao. The first lady draped herself in a red gown made by British designer Sarah Burton, and Mr. de la Renta seemed to think choosing an American-made dress would have been a better way to encourage Chinese-American trade.
“My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade - American products in China and Chinese products in America,” Mr. de la Renta said. “Why do you wear European clothes?”
Since her husband assumed the presidency in 2009, the first lady has been a fashion icon and an anti-obesity advocate. From J. Crew to Alexander McQueen, Mrs. Obama is known for sporting the work of myriad designers.
Kevin Federline, girlfriend welcome baby girl
Backup dancer Kevin Federline has welcomed a baby girl with significant other Victoria Prince, making him a father of five, Us Weekly reports.
Most easily recognized for his short-lived marriage to pop sensation Britney Spears, Mr. Federline named his new child Jordan Kay.
“Everything was perfect, and everyone is doing well,” the 33-year-old told Us Weekly exclusively.
Earlier this year, the rapper explained to Us Weekly that he and Miss Prince went for the name Jordan because it could work for both genders.
Miss Prince “said that if we were going to have a little girl, she wanted to name her Jordan. And then, we actually thought that it was a boy, but we stuck with the name Jordan because, you know, it fits both ways,” Mr. Federline told Us Weekly.
Mr. Federline and Miss Spears have two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden. He has a 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, whom many remember from the 1997 Nickelodeon children’s comedy film “Good Burger.”
Though a one-time rapper, Mr. Federline’s big claim to fame was his 2004 wedding to Miss Spears, when the Southern songbird was 22 years old.
Gene Simmons predicts Perry victory in 2012
While many Republicans are still trying to decide which GOP candidate they will support in the primary season, Kiss rocker Gene Simmons already has fired his “love gun” at the race’s newest candidate.
In two tweets Tuesday afternoon, the ostentatious singer predicted that Texas Gov. Rick Perry will win the presidency in 2012. While not providing any specific reasoning or argument behind his bold prediction, Mr. Simmons touted his previous record of confirmed electoral predictions as undeniable proof he will be right again.
“I voted for Pres Bush. I voted for Pres Clinton. I voted for Pres Obama. The next president will be Gov Rick Perry,” Mr. Simmons tweeted.
He also cited Mr. Perry’s well-known party switch in 1989 as proof that Mr. Perry can win the White House.
“Gov Perry worked for Al Gore and then switched to Republican. He will be our next President. I’ve never been wrong.”
While the iconic musician may claim to be an infallible crystal ball, Mr. Simmons has on multiple occasions expressed regret for voting for President Obama. In an interview with CNBC in May, Mr. Simmons, who is Jewish, slammed the president for calling on Israel to return to its 1967 borders.
“I think [Barack Obama] is actually a good guy. He has no … idea what the world is like because he doesn’t have to live there,” the vociferous musician told a rather startled Jane Wells.
Mr. Simmons accurately predicted the outcome of the 2010 midterm elections in September, forecasting that the tea-party movement would bring “major change.” Only time will tell whether the Kiss frontman will be right again.
“Who am I to say that what they’re doing is right or wrong? At the end of the day, no matter what anyone believes in, no matter what side of the aisle you’re on, you have the opportunity to vote, and express your feelings,” Mr. Simmons explained.
