Julianne Moore will bring children’s book to D.C. festival
“Crazy Stupid Love” actress Julianne Moore will travel to the nation’s capital next month for the annual National Book Festival.
The actress, who will portray former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in the upcoming HBO movie “Game Change,” will be promoting her children’s book series “Freckleface Strawberry,” which follows a freckle-faced, redheaded girl.
Miss Moore tweeted Tuesday, “yes that is right I will be at the National Book Fair in DC in sept with my new book for children.”
The 50-year-old redhead started writing children’s books in 2007 as a way to help children embrace their looks and physical attributes. Long before her days of landing Oscar nominations, Miss Moore was taunted in grade school because of her appearance.
“When I was 7, the other kids called me ’Freckleface Strawberry.’ I hated it,” Miss Moore told USA Today in 2007. “But they were just calling it like they saw it, even when they said things like, ’You look dirty,’ and ’Can I smell them?’ “
In the same interview, Miss Moore explained that she penned “Freckleface Strawberry” for her own children.
“I wrote it for them,” Miss Moore said of her little boy and girl. “In tone, ’Freckleface Strawberry’ is more like my daughter than me. She has a lot more personality than I did at her age. She’s more sure of herself. She’s more of a spunky kid.”
Miss Moore’s book events will take place Sept. 24 and 25 on the Mall. Other writers in attendance will include “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother” memoirist Amy Chua, “Wicked” author Gregory Maguire and “A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius” author Dave Eggers.
Palin family welcomes second grandchild
Iraq War veteran Track Palin and his bride, Britta Hanson, welcomed a baby girl over the weekend, according to Us Weekly.
Three months ago, the couple married in Hatcher Pass, Alaska. Journalist Joe McGinniss, a onetime neighbor of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her family, reported Monday that the former vice-presidential candidate became a grandma again. Mr. McGinniss said the child has been named Kyla Grace Palin.
Last month, Gawker reported that Ms. Hanson had published a Facebook photo of herself with an apparently pregnant belly, surrounded by gift bags and diapers. Beneath the snapshot, Ms. Hanson’s Facebook friends had posted congratulatory messages to the mother-to-be. The gossip news outlet also discovered what appeared to be Ms. Hanson’s online baby registry, which said the couple were expecting a girl.
Mr. Palin, the 22-year-old eldest child of Mrs. Palin, is an Army reservist. His wife studies nursing at the University of Alaska. The newlyweds were high school sweethearts.
When the couple tied the knot in May, the Hanson and Palin families expressed their happiness over the union.
“Our families couldn’t be happier,” the bride and groom’s families said in a joint statement. “These are two hard-working, humble, active, studious young adults who grew up together. We’re tickled that after two decades of friendship we proudly witnessed their marriage, knowing their new life together will be blessed.”
Justin Bieber tells fans to ’put God first’
Pop star and devout Christian Justin Bieber wants to spread his faith to fans, as evidenced by his acceptance speech at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday.
After landing the award for favorite male music artist, the Canadian teen hopped onstage, took the surfboard-styled trophy, and said, “I want to say that anything is possible. … You got to keep God first and always remember to keep family first. Jesus loves every one of you.”
The “Baby” singer made a similar statement earlier that evening, when he told Entertainment Tonight, “If you put God first and remember to always stay humble and always be gracious, then anything can happen.”
Since becoming a worldwide music sensation in 2009, Justin has spoken about his religious views many times. In an interview with the Guardian last year, the Billboard Music Award winner discussed how he shows gratitude to the Lord.
“I pray all the time,” Justin told the Guardian. “I pray two to three times a day. When I wake up, I thank him for my blessings. I thank him for putting me in this position. And at the end of the day I get out my Bible. At home-school my tutor is Christian, so we go over Bible verses. It’s something that keeps me grounded.”
Asked whether he believes atheists would be better off as Christians, the “Never Say Never” star said, “They’re definitely missing out.”
In a February interview with Rolling Stone, Justin expressed his views on abortion: “I really don’t believe in abortion. … It’s like killing a baby.”
