NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The NBA has fined the New Jersey Nets $50,000 because hip-hop mogul and part-owner Jay-Z went into the Kentucky locker room after the Wildcats clinched a berth in the Final Four.
League spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the fine Friday before the Nets played the New York Knicks at the Prudential Center.
Jay-Z was in the building, the Nets’ home court, and visited the Kentucky players after their victory against North Carolina in the East Regional final on March 27.
NBA rules prohibit team personnel from having contact with players who are not yet draft eligible.
ESPN.com was the first to report the fine.
