LeBron James’ mother arrested in valet assault

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. | The mother of Miami Heat basketball star LeBron James was arrested by Miami Beach police after she was accused of assaulting a valet worker because it was taking too long to have her car delivered.

Police said Gloria James had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and her eyes were bloodshot when officers arrived at the hotel about 4:47 a.m. Thursday. She was released with a promise to appear on charges of simple battery and disorderly conduct.

“It’s a sensitive subject,” LeBron James said after the Heat practiced Thursday afternoon. “It’s a personal matter. It’s being taken care of.”

Police said several witnesses supported valet worker Sorel Rockfeller’s account of the incident.

The NHL’s Capitals already “Rock the Red,” as the slogan goes, and the NBA’s Wizards plan to make the switch to red, white and blue next season.

The WNBA will be using new uniforms in its 15th season, with jerseys designed to be lighter and dry faster to keep players more comfortable.

NEW YORK | The Twins’ heralded Japanese import, Tsuyoshi Nishioka, has broken his left fibula after the Yankees’ Nick Swisher slid into him at second base while breaking up a double play in Minnesota’s 4-3 loss.

The Twins say they think the play was clean, and Swisher apologized to Nishioka after the game. There was no immediate word on how long Nishioka would be out.

Foote has appeared in more regular season and playoff games than any other defenseman in franchise history and was a member of Colorado’s two Stanley Cup champions.

Foote’s 17th season with the team has been marred by injuries. The captain has been sidelined by a leg injury since March 16. He also missed time this season with a concussion. He might play this weekend, when the team wraps up its season with games against Dallas on Friday night and Edmonton on Sunday.
