LONDON (AP) - Palace officials say Prince Harry will spend at least one extra day trekking in the Arctic because cracks in the ice have closed the airport runway that he planned to use to return home.
Officials say the 26-year-old royal will be on the first available flight back to Britain because he has to resume his military service.
The palace said Thursday that Harry would spend the unexpected extra day continuing his trek with wounded servicemen who are heading toward the North Pole. The group seeks to raise 2 million pounds ($3.2 million) for the Walking With the Wounded charity.
The temporary airport is built on an ice floe in the Arctic and is subject to many weather-related shutdowns. Officials say the runway should be repaired within 24 or 48 hours.
