BOSTON (AP) - Shaquille O’Neal returned to the floor for the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
It was O’Neal’s first game since Feb. 1.
O’Neal entered the game against the Detroit Pistons with 4:43 left in the first quarter, drawing a big cheer from the crowd. On Boston’s first possession, he caught a pass underneath from Rajon Rondo and laid it in to give the Celtics a 17-16 lead. Then he scored again on their next time down.
O’Neal signed with the Celtics for the veteran’s minimum last summer for the chance to win his fifth NBA title. He has been limited to 37 games this season because of a strained left Achilles’ tendon.
He is averaging 9.3 points per game.
