SEATTLE (AP) - Xavier coach Kevin McGuff is leaving to take the same job at Washington.
Washington announced the hiring Sunday and said he has signed a multiyear deal.
McGuff brought Xavier to national prominence during his nine years there, guiding them to the regional finals last season before they bowed out in the second round to Louisville this year. He won both the Atlantic 10 regular season and postseason title this year.
He replaces Tia Jackson, who resigned on March 14 after going 45-75 in four seasons and never winning more than 13 games in a season.
Washington was 11-17 this year and lost in the Pac-10 Conference tournament quarterfinals to California.
