CLEVELAND (AP) - The Indians’ Carlos Santana has caught a popped bunt to begin a triple play for Cleveland in his first major league start at first base.
Runners were in motion at first and second in the fourth inning Sunday against the Chicago White Sox when Santana made a diving catch of a bunt by Alexei Ramirez just in fair territory.
Santana scrambled to his feet and threw to second baseman Orlando Cabrera at first base to double up A.J. Pierzynski. Cabrera then threw to shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera at second for the putout on Carlos Quentin.
Santana is normally the Indians’ starting catcher.
It was Cleveland’s first triple play since Asdrubal Cabrera turned an unassisted one against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 12, 2008.
