Colin Kaepernick will start his NFL career close to home.

The strong-armed and fleet-footed Nevada quarterback was selected Friday by the San Francisco 49ers with the fourth pick of the second round, No. 36 overall.

Kaepernick was at his parents’ house in Turlock, Calif., about 100 miles east of San Francisco, when he got the call.

He said: “That was probably the most exciting moment in my life thus far.”

Kaepernick says getting picked by the 49ers and new coach Jim Harbaugh more than made up for not going in the first round Thursday.

He was the sixth quarterback selected.
