Once again, the elected officials in our nation’s capital have shown the rest of the country why they don’t deserve to represent Washington (“Mayor, council members arrested,” Metro, April 12).

How dare Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and Mayor Vincent C. Gray have the audacity to tell their citizenry that the D.C. Council wants to spend “their own money” to fund abortions? Since when is money taken from taxpayers theirs? If abortion is a “right” that is so dear to the D.C. government, I suggest they get their funding by means that don’t involve taxpayer money. As Thomas Jefferson said, “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

I believe the actions of the D.C. Council are the very definition of sinful and tyrannical, as do many other taxpayers.
