INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks, once rivals and fixtures in the playoffs in the 1990s, have rebuilt and returned to postseason play after long droughts.
Former Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh has rebuilt the Knicks after he left Larry Bird in Indianapolis to rebuild the Pacers.
Walsh did it by luring Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony to the Big Apple. New York will play at Boston on Sunday in its first postseason game since 2004.
Bird, the Pacers president, rebuilt with youth. Danny Granger is the only Indiana starter to complete more than three full seasons in the league. After missing the playoffs for four straight years, the Pacers are back and will play at Chicago on Saturday.
