LINCOLN, NEB. (AP) - Nebraska coach Doc Sadler’s new five-year contract raises his annual salary from $800,000 to $900,000 and almost doubles the amount of money he would get if he is fired.
Sadler will be paid bonuses of $100,000 for winning a Big Ten regular-season or tournament championship, $150,000 if the Huskers make the NCAA tournament and $75,000 if they appear in the NIT.
Nebraska has been in six NCAA tournaments and never won a game. Sadler would receive incremental bonuses for each NCAA win, and $450,000 if the Huskers win the national title.
Sadler is 89-71 in five seasons with the Cornhuskers. His contract runs through the 2015-16 season
Under the contract, made public Thursday, Sadler would be paid $66,667 a month for the balance of its term if he’s fired. The figure was $35,417 under his previous contract.
