ST. PAUL, MINN. (AP) - The Minnesota Wild have signed former University of North Dakota defenseman Chay Genoway (JEN’-oh-way) to an entry-level contract.
The 24-year-old Genoway helped lead the Fighting Sioux to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season and playoff championships and a spot in the NCAA Frozen Four.
Genoway was a four-time All-WCHA pick and UND’s captain for the past two seasons. He had six goals and 31 assists in 36 games this season as a fifth-year senior and posted 127 points in 168 career games.
The Wild have gone hard after college free agents like Genoway over the last few years since Chuck Fletcher took over as general manager. Genoway is a native of Manitoba and a product of Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school in Faribault, Minn.
